Sunsprout Farms of Central Ohio is owned and operated by Steve and Pat Sauer and their son Ed.
We bought the business back in June of 1982, right about when we were starting up our family, starting in a small space with no employees. Over the years, with a growing and diverse population in the area, increased awareness of healthy eating, and customer appreciation of our small, family approach, we've relocated to North Linden and expanded our business significantly over the last few decades. We are grateful to have the loyal support of a wide variety of customers, including small family run groceries and local retail stores, as well as larger produce wholesalers and distributors.
We produce sprouts year round, with the help from a small group of employees that care about their work. All sprouts are grown hydroponically indoors, which allows us to avoid using any pesticides or herbicides on the sprouts whatsoever!
Provide safe, healthy, delicious sprouts to the people of Columbus and beyond. We are happy and proud to serve all types of customers, from small groceries to large wholesalers. We strive to support local businesses as directly as possible with excellent customer service. Every single batch of sprouts produced clears pathogen testing before sale, and we go above and beyond FDA and ODA food safety regulations with consistently high scores on our rigorous annual 3rd-party food safety inspections.
We are an environmentally conscious business, by which we mean we try and reduce our impact on the Columbus area and the larger environment in terms of water, energy, chemical and fuel usage. To start with, the perishable nature of our product and our relatively small production size results in a truly local product. Our estimate is that about 85% of the sprouts we produce end up on someone's plate within the city limits, and we keep our fleet down to only a few vehicles, backhauling and sharing space on other produce trucks whenever possible. Resource conserving methods we use include installing a smart watering system that only delivers the specific amount each crop needs at each stage in its life, hiring a local famer to collect all compostable byproducts generated during production, and donating as much product as possible to local food banks.
We source our supplies from local businesses as much as possible.
Last but not least we believe Black Lives Matter!!
